Discover Grant-Valkaria, Florida — a hidden coastal community just north of Sebastian, known for its acreage homes, horse properties, sprawling oak trees, quiet country roads, and easy access to the Indian River Lagoon.
There are still places along Florida's East Coast where life moves a little slower. Where properties are measured in acres rather than square feet, mature oak trees stretch across winding driveways, and it's not unusual to pass horses grazing in a pasture on your way to the water.
Grant, Florida, is one of those places.
Tucked just north of Sebastian in southern Brevard County, Grant-Valkaria is one of those little communities that many Treasure Coast homebuyers overlook.
It's rural, it's coastal, and it has managed to hold onto much of the Old Florida charm that has disappeared from so many other communities.
For anyone dreaming of a little land, a few animals, a workshop, or simply more space between neighbors, Grant-Valkaria deserves a closer look.
Where Is Grant, Florida?
Grant-Valkaria sits along the western shore of the Indian River Lagoon, between Sebastian and Palm Bay. Although it's just north of Indian River County, it is officially part of southern Brevard County.
Its location is particularly appealing for buyers who want country living without moving far inland.
To the east, you have the Indian River Lagoon, with boating, fishing, and access toward Sebastian Inlet. Head west, and you'll find wooded acreage, equestrian properties, nurseries, and quiet residential roads.
It's a unique combination of coastal and country living, with Sebastian, Melbourne, and the beaches of the Space Coast all within reach.
Acreage Homes, Horse Properties, and Room to Grow
One of the most consistent requests I've heard from buyers over the past few years is that they want more land.
Some want an acre or two for privacy, a pool, a detached garage, or space to park a boat and RV. Others envision a full homestead with chickens, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and horses.
Many buyers begin their searches in Sebastian, Vero Beach, Fellsmere, or western Indian River County, but I often encourage them to expand their search a little farther north.
Grant-Valkaria offers a wonderful alternative.
You'll find everything from modest country cottages on oversized lots to established equestrian estates and multi-acre parcels.
What I particularly love about this area is the landscape. There are still properties with towering live oaks, native palmettos, pine trees, and beautiful natural vegetation.
It's the kind of Florida where you can create your own little retreat without feeling completely disconnected from the coast.
